Replies that forget you

The messages are long, warm, and grammatical. They arrive at any hour, almost instantly. And somehow, none of them ever mention your sister's surgery, the job interview you were nervous about, or anything else you actually told them.

The pattern

Affection in the abstract, amnesia in the specific. Answers to direct personal questions come back generic or oddly repetitive; details you shared last week never resurface; sometimes the same phrases return word for word. The FBI's guidance emphasizes inconsistencies and evasive answers as core scam tells — and in a World survey of 90,000+ people, 26% admitted flirting with a chatbot, some without knowing it at the time.

Why the memory is missing

Scam operations run dozens of conversations in parallel — from scripts, from playbooks, increasingly with AI drafting the replies. None of those methods keep a faithful record of you. The warmth is a template; templates don't take notes. A real person forgets things too, but a real person forgets randomly — a persona forgets systematically, everything specific, while never missing a beat on the affection.
